Michael P. Colucci, ACSW, MBA

President & Chief Executive Officer

 

Michael Colucci has over 35 years of management and consulting experience in healthcare administration, mergers and acquisitions, healthcare business development and operations, healthcare information systems, healthcare financing, and revenue cycle management.


Mr. Colucci spent the first 20 years of his career in progressively more responsible administrative positions in both not for profit and proprietary healthcare systems in Michigan, Missouri, and Illinois where his experiences ranged from the formation, financing and development of mental health and substance abuse programs, to the acquisition of small hospitals in rural areas of Nebraska, Missouri and South Dakota. In Illinois he spent 10 years with the MacNeal Health Network where he developed and managed a highly successful physician development initiative that added over 250 primary care and specialty physicians to a suburban community health system which accounted for over 20,000 admissions over 10 years and a position as a “Top 100” hospital in the United States. As part of this initiative, he created the first network-owned physician network in the Chicago marketplace with 10 locations and over 40 primary care and specialty physicians who were employed by the network. In addition, he managed operational programs in primary care, and a nationally recognized program in Orthopaedics.


In 1999, Mr. Colucci founded Idilus LLC. Under his direction, the company has formed, financed and developed physician practices that have included Orthopaedics, Primary Care, Cardiology, Bariatric Surgery, and Trauma Surgery as well as negotiated mergers and acquisitions of both medical and surgical sub-specialty medical practices. The firm's clients include physician practices of all sizes as well as for profit and non for profit community hospitals and university teaching programs. In addition, the Idilus HR division provides employer services for physicians and their employees in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

 

Some of the firm’s recent consulting engagements involving Mr. Colucci further illustrate his expertise:

  • Financial and Operational Analysis - Completed the financial and operational analysis of a health system that owned a 60 physician primary care network for a major not-for-profit health care provider in the Chicago metropolitan area.
  • Financial Workout - Engaged by a local bank as a “workout and litigation” consultant in both pre-petition and post petition Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 proceedings involving healthcare organizations and medical practices.
  • Merger and Acquisition – Negotiated complex merger of two nephrology practices including Asset Purchase Agreement, Employment Agreements and equity purchase options for a dialysis center.
  • Formation of a major trauma surgery practice from a group of employed physicians for a level one trauma center, negotiated agreements with physicians, sellers of practice and hospital client for the ongoing delivery of trauma surgical services.

Mr. Colucci received his BA from The University of Detroit, a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work from Wayne State University of Detroit and an MBA in business and Finance from Michigan State University.  Mr. Colucci provides direct consultation to financial institutions in financial restructuring arrangements and solutions for troubled healthcare operations and works extensively with both lenders and venture capital firms to provide financing for new and developing healthcare operations. He has designed physician compensation and succession plans, and has also had significant expertise in strategic physician manpower planning, implementation, and physician compensation models for hospital-based physicians.


He is respected as a creative and intuitive problem solver, with strong people skills and the ability to motivate people and readily resolve conflicts. Mr. Colucci provides advice to clients in physician and hospital information technology. He has extensive experience and is regularly consulted on the identification, evaluation, selection, and installation of both server-based and ASP (SAS) based software products for hospitals and physicians. These include Revenue Cycle Management Products, Business Intelligence Software and Electronic Medical records.


Mr. Colucci maintains long-standing relationships with the largest Federally Qualified Health Plan in the United States, Access Community Health, which provides medical services in underserved areas in and around Chicago. He has spoken to physicians in the Advocate Health regarding the effects of the new healthcare reform legislation on hospitals and the private practice of medicine. He has also spoken to ICAHN (The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network) on the effects of healthcare reform on small, rural and critical access hospitals. 

 

Michael is an active member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), The National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants, The American Academy of Healthcare Executives, The Healthcare Financial Management Association, The American Health Information Association, The Academy of Certified Social Workers, The National Rural Health Association, and The American Bankruptcy Institute.


Mr. Colucci resides in Naperville, IL, with his wife, Fran. He has two daughters, Karin and Angela, both of whom actively participate at Idilus.

 

 

Kirk Edwards, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

 

 

Mr. Edwards has been working in the employee benefits field for over 25 years. Prior to joining Idilus, he worked for a variety of pension and welfare funds overseeing financial management and administration. As a senior executive at Zenith Administrators, a third party administrator, he oversaw all aspects of claims processing, premium applications, customer service and client management.


At Idilus, he is responsible for both the strategic and day-to-day financial management of the company and organizations it manages.


Mr. Edwards received his BA from DePauw University and MBA from Indiana University. He is a member of the Illinois CPA Society and the AICPA.


Mr. Edwards resides in Winfield, IL with his wife Karen and two daughters.

 

 

William J. Sample

Executive Vice President - Lean Six Sigma Strategies

 

William Sample joined the Idilus team in September 2010 as Executive VP of Lean Six Sigma Strategies.  

 

Before joining Idilus, Mr. Sample most recently provided direct consultation to a broad spectrum of major companies that specialized in medical devices, food service, electronics, cosmetics, and aerospace to name a few. He has personally managed both public and private business entities in either turnaround situations or growth, profit and cash flow improvement for major business sectors.

 

Mr. Sample is skilled in assessment and formulation of rapid business processes and implementation of enterprise value stream. He has an extensive breadth of experience gained from working on difficult and complex situations and he is strong in guiding turnarounds using the talents and skills of existing team members. Utilization and application of Lean Six Sigma Tools has been demonstrated to not only improve business processes but provide a positive framework and methodology for team-based success, coupled with achieving individual & group “buy-in” to sustain lasting improvement.

 

Mr. Sample was initially exposed to Lean Principles in the late 1980’s and used many of the fundamentals in the expansion of the Wood Furniture Group for Hon Industries. This group grew from $24M to a significant business segment for HNI exceeding $100M within 5 years.

 

In 1992, Mr. Sample participated with a small, select group that went to Japan to see the benefits of using Toyota Business Improvement Principles first hand. Over the next (24) months Mr. Sample worked directly with the leading Sensei's (Shingijitsu Group) who came from Toyota, to solve issues within the enterprise value streams.

 

In 1994, Mr. Sample joined Pioneer Plastics Corporation to manage their Tennessee Technical Products Division. Based in part on the improvements implemented, after two years, this division and the parent company were sold to Rugby, PLC, headquartered in the U.K.

 

It was at this time, Mr. Sample joined the TBM Consulting Group to combine his business management  improvement skills with advanced Lean Principles to help clients achieve new competitive advantages, increased sales revenues and earnings in a high performance culture.

 

Mr. Sample received his Associate's Degree in Design Technology from Penn State University, and continued his engineering undergraduate work in the dual disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering at Gannon University and the Universities of Missouri & New Mexico. Graduate work in Finance & Marketing was accomplished at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

 

 

Brian Haugh

Director of Business Development

 

Brian Haugh joined Idilus, LLC, as Director of Business Development while maintaining an independent career as a Partner with Landmark Financial Group and as Chairman of Chicago Search Group. Having recently left a position selling employer services in the Chicagoland market, Brian felt Idilus would be a good fit for his entrepreneurial spirit.

Brian offers Idilus the skills as one of Chicago’s top billing recruiters combined with profound knowledge and understanding of building businesses, insurance products and the insurance industry.  One of the keys to building a successful team is happy, healthy team members and Brian’s specialty is showing your business how to provide better benefits at a lower cost to your employees which will help you retain and attract top talent. Brian earned a B.S.  in Accountancy at the University Of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from the College of Business.


 

 

    

Karin Colucci

Director of Client Services

 

 

 

Ms. Colucci has extensive experience in healthcare human resources and benefit administration. As Director of the Employer Services Division of Idilus, she is responsible for the largest division of the company, developing and maintaining all of the systems and processes that support the unique human resources demands of Idilus and its healthcare centric clients. Specifically, she oversees employee benefits, payroll and 401k administration, employee education and mediation as well as all office and clinical support staffing and recruiting.

 

Ms. Colucci has a BA/BS in Sociology and Anthropology from Loyola University Chicago. She earned her MBA with an emphasis in Conflict Negotiation from Jones International University. She is a member of Society for Human Resource Management, American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration as well as the Society for Conflict Resolution.

 

Ms. Colucci currently resides in Naperville, IL.
